Tell a Friend
With unique creative alchemy, Uri Caine—composer, pianist, jazz iconoclast—reimagines Verdi’s classic opera Othello, probing the disorder of delusional jealousy through multiple lenses of jazz, funk, blues, soul, and electronica. Tenderly written yet thoroughly unsentimental, The Othello Syndrome showcases an A-list cast of multi-talented performers from around the globe, including R&B singer-producer Bunny Sigler, and Swedish jazz muse Josefine Lindstrand, in addition to Stanford professor Rush Rehm who portrays Iago alongside the Caine Ensemble. Nominated for a “Best Classical Crossover Album” Grammy Award in 2008, The Othello Syndrome debuted at the Venice Biennale for Music in 2003. This performance will be Caine’s second appearance with Stanford Lively Arts; his unforgettable Mahler Remix in 2008 was hailed by the San Francisco Chronicle as one of the “10 Best Classical Music Events” of the year.
Note: This program contains adult language and themes.
