DJ Olive is a Brooklyn-based sound artist, turntablist, installation artist, collaborator and musical provocateur. From his "Roof Music" series of funky dance grooves, to his brooding beat-less "Sleeping Pill" series of sound installation works, to his wildly inventive "Vinyl Scores" for improvising turntablists, his projects artfully cross the boundaries between dance music, experimental music and sound art. Olive's work has been included in exhibitions world-wide, including the Whitney Biennial (2002, 2008) and the Venice Biennial (2003), and he has performed and collaborated with jazz, rock and new music artists across the creative spectrum, from Medeski, Martin and Wood to Sonic Youth, Luc Ferrari to John Zorn.
Olive inaugurates the new CCRMA Cabaret 2.0 series as part of his ongoing campus residency as a member of Dave Douglas' Keystone ensemble. CCRMA Cabaret 2.0 brings audiences up close with solo performers who have charted new paths on their chosen instrument, as composers, sound artists, and multi-disciplinary experimenters.
Presented in collaboration with the Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA).
