The last 10 years have seen rapid changes for the music industry. New technologies have opened up paths for artists to connect and distribute music directly to fans without the support of a major recording label.

On Wednesday November 4, Quincy Delight Jones III (often known as QD3) and rapper Chamillionaire (whose real name is Hakeem Seriki) came to Stanford’s Memorial Auditorium as part of the 2009 Global Innovation Tournament, organized by the Stanford Technology Ventures Program (STVP) and the Entrepreneurial Thought Leaders (ETL) series to discuss their experience in the music industry.

Jones spoke positively about new technological opportunities, saying the Internet “allows every single person in the world to become an entrepreneur.” He also added, “I coined the term, e-hustlin’—it’s available to everyone.”

You can view a video podcast of the discussion here or read more in the Stanford Daily.
