Schools & Families

Through a variety of programs for students, teachers, families, and community partners, Stanford Lively Arts seeks to ignite the spark that will lead to a lifelong engagement with the performing arts for audiences of all ages.

Programs For Schools

K–12 STUDENT MATINEES FOR STUDENTS AND THEIR TEACHERS take place on campus throughout the school year. Featuring performers from the mainstage season, matinees engage the imagination and open new horizons in a diversity of arts disciplines. Student Matinee dates for 2011-2012 will be announced in August. Tickets are $7.00 each, with scholarship assistance available to qualifying schools.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS for teachers precede each performance. Designed to deepen teachers’ understanding of the arts disciplines to be performed, workshops are open to all teachers and will allow you to prepare for and delve further into each program. Stanford Lively Arts also provides comprehensive teacher and student companion guides to all performances free of charge. The guides are an excellent resource to encourage learning in the arts before and after the performance.

STUDY MATERIALS FOR TEACHERS AND STUDENTS enrich the performance-going experience. Study guides encourage learning and reflection in the arts beyond the performance and are provided free of charge to all classrooms attending matinees.

STANFORD SCHOOL OF EDUCATION PARTNERSHIP brings teacher candidates in the Stanford Teacher Education Program (STEP) and their K–12 students from local public schools to Lively Arts matinee performances free of charge, and underscores the importance of arts education for Stanford’s pre-service teachers.

Stanford Lively Arts, the Palo Alto Unified School District, and TheatreWorks Silicon Valley are members of the Partners in Education program of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Selected in recognition of their demonstrated commitment to arts education, the members of the partnership team collaborate on advocacy efforts and programs serving the teachers and students of the Palo Alto Unified School District.
